Baseline Modifications

How does Metrix handle increases in building area, or changes in facility usage patterns?

This is a real problem when you are tracking utility bills.  Suppose you installed a lighting retrofit, and it looked as if you were saving the energy you expected to save, and then the building added a new wing.  Now, the extra energy consumed by the new wing will make your savings disappear.

To correct for this, Metrix allows you to enter the increase in usage associated with the new wing.  This increase is then added to the Baseline amount, as the graph below shows.

Can I correct for other things like increases in square footage or increase in my factory’s production?

Yes.  Metrix can perform the weather regression shown above for your own variables that you insert into the program.  Some common examples are “number of school days”, “hospital patient-days” and “number of widgets produced.”  Square footage is typically not used to adjust the baseline.  If there is a change in square footage, then a baseline modification is made.
